ACT Prep Course

Take the Prep course at College of the Ouachitas 

Dates: March 7th through April 11th (no classes the week of spring break)
Thursday nights 
6:00 pm to 9:00 pm 
Rooms 109 & 110, Arts and Sciences Center 
Instructors - Sean Queen & Nicole McGough 

Cost is $150 per student and must be paid by March 4th.

Basic Carpentry

This Class is designed for the beginner.  This is a 6 hour class that will be held Monday and Tuesday, May 13 and 14 from 5:30 – 8:30 pm.  All tools and material will be provided.

Outcomes: 

  • Understand uses and safety of common carpentry hand and power tools.
  • Gain knowledge on how to approach and construct small carpentry projects.
  • Build one of the following items: a shoe rack, a plywood work stool, or a wooden step stool.

Monday

  • Safety orientation and demonstration of tools being used
  • Choose the project you want to build
  • Draw blueprint of project
  • Begin layout and cutting

Tuesday

  • Continue Layout and cutting
  • Begin assembly
  • Final assembly, sanding, and discussion

Cost of the class is $150 per student.

Carpentry Roof Framing and Rafter's

This class is designed for the Diy’er and the beginning carpenter.  This is a 9 hour class that will be held in 3 hours increments on 3 consecutive Tuesdays.  May 28, June 4, and June 11.
All tools and material will be provided.

Outcomes:

  • Understand and recognize common roof systems
  • Understand fundamental roof framing components
  • Know basic principles on how to frame a roof structure
  • Gain knowledge of layout and erection of roof structures

May 28 

  • Discuss and explain roof types
  • Learn common roof components
  • Learn tools of the trade and their uses
  • Safety of those tools

June 4

  • Layout of common rafters
  • Rafter-Ridge relationship
  • Construction Calculator lesson

June 11

  • Difference in Framing Hip vs. Gable roof
  • Layout and cut rafters for both hip and gable

OSHA 10 Construction Industry Classes

LIVE INSTRUCTOR authorized by OSHA and Dept. of Labor
This class is designed for any person needing their OSHA 10 Construction Industry Completion Card.  And for those desiring to understand Construction hazards.

2 Offerings of classes

1.    Two Saturdays: June 1 & 8,  8:00 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. and must attend both Saturdays
2.    Three Thursdays: June 6, 13, and 20, 5:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. and must attend all three Thursdays

Students can only take one class or the other.  Students may not attend one Saturday and one Thursday etc… These are separate classes.

Outcomes:

●    Earn your OSHA 10 Construction Industry Completion Card
●    Learn how to reduce and report work hazards
●    Better understand OSHA and why it exists
●    Raise awareness of Health concerns and safety risks in the construction industry
●    Learn Basic fall protection, fire prevention, power tool safety and guarding, and ladder and stairway safety

All students will receive OSHA handouts and study material.
Upon completion of class, students will receive a certificate of completion and will be mailed their OSHA 10 Construction Industry cards within 90 days.
