Active Shooter Drill Conducted During COTO's Emergency Preparedness Exercise

At 8:30 am, Thursday, August 23, regular activities at College of the Ouachitas were disrupted. Following months of preparation, the College conducted an Emergency Preparedness Exercise with a simulated scenario which included an active shooter. The College worked closely with area Emergency First Responders, which included: Malvern Police Department, Hot Spring County 911, Malvern Fire Department, Lifenet Ambulance, Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Department, and Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy. The drill lasted for roughly one hour, disrupting normal activities on the campus. Information gathered during the drill will be compiled into a report as part of our continuous improvement process. COTO President, Dr. Steve Rook shared, “I want to thank everyone who participated in the emergency exercise this morning. It’s a shame we have to prepare for such situations but it is necessary to try and protect our community.”
